First Two Months of 2022 Sees 23% Increase in Tax Collection, Surpassing US $500 Million

PHNOM PENH: In the first two months of 2022, the General Department of Taxation collected 2.07 billion riel for the national budget, equivalent to approximately US $512.26 million USD, an increase of 22.69% compared to the same period last year.

At the meeting to review the results of tax collection for February 2022 and the direction of implementation, conducted online on Monday, 14 March, the Director General of the General Department of Taxation said that the there are five main types of taxes collected by the government: income tax, value added tax, excise tax, payroll tax, and stamp duty on property transfer.

Tax collection has increased significantly compared to February 2021, with income tax amounting to 190.15 billion riel, an increase of 23.61 billion riel, equal to 14.18%. Value added tax was 252.78 billion riel, an increase of 13.23 billion riel, equal to 5.52%. Special tax was 105.67 billion riels, an increase of 15.50 billion riel, equivalent to 17.19%. Salary tax was 98.42 billion riels, an increase of 18.51 billion riels equal to 23.17%. And the stamp duty on the transfer tax on real estate transfer was 63.23 billion riels, an increase of 9.18 billion riels, equivalent to 16.98%.
